I'm a former California bank commissioner, reformed fintech lawyer, and hopeless raconteur now exercising more creative muscles through writing, photography, and general dithering.
I'm currently writing a book -- a first for me -- about fatherhood. The project started as a series of personal essays about raising two sons without myself having had a father or any brothers to learn from. My "role models" were generally temporary and traditionally Mexican in their approach. And while I benefitted from their care and concern, it seems I also picked up some bad habits and stupid ideas about manhood along the way, much of which I am unlearning so as not to pass on the fuck-up's to my kids. The working title of the project is "The Macho Cheese," which still makes me smile and chuckle whenever I say it so I figure, how bad a title could that be?
In general, I admire reinvention and enjoy feeling like a novice and, to that end, endlessly tinker and pontificate on matters about which I claim limited to no expertise.
Tant pis, as they say.
